The sirens had left me on edge. I couldnât sit still in the bar and paced beside the table. Jami held his hand out to me, and I eyed it warily.
âWhat if theyâre trying to distract us from something?â I speculated. âThey obviously wanted to be seen, to be heard⦠It could be a trap.â
Jami let his hand drop to his side and leaned back in his chair. âIt could be,â he agreed. âBut thereâs nothing we can do if we donât know their plan.â
âWell, we havenât seen the queen since she attacked your ship.â I flicked my eyes to Jami and his gaze dropped to the table. âWeâll get her back for that,â I promised.
Jamiâs eyes lifted to mine. âThatâs not what Iâm worried about.â He held his hand out to me again, but this time I took it and let him pull me in close. The warmth he radiated eased some of my worries as I took a seat in his lap.
âNo?â I asked, and he shook his head.
âNo. Iâm worried about you.â He lifted his hand to cup my cheek. I leaned down and rested my forehead against his.
âYou donât need to worry about me.â I pressed my lips to his. His hand trailed to the back of my neck, pulling me in closer and deepening the kiss.
A small part of my brain nagged me, reminding me that Iâd barely known Jami for a week, and I had always fallen hard and fast. But I kept telling that part of myself that this was different.
âTone it down you two,â Nix joked as she returned from the bar with a round of drinks. âWe are in public after all.â
I chuckled and pulled back from Jami. He kept his arm around me and traced lazy circles on my hip that drove me crazy. In return, I shimmied a little pretending to resettle myself in his lap. Jamiâs head fell back as a small groan escaped his lips. I gave him a pointed look, and he ceased the circles.
âYou are vicious,â he murmured in my ear.
âDonât pretend you donât like it,â I rebuked, biting my lip.
Nix chatted with Marley on the other side of the table, but I couldnât focus on what they were saying.
Instead, I stood from Jamiâs lap, grabbed his hand, and pulled him from his seat. Surprise flashed in his eyes, and he opened his mouth to say something, but I tugged him toward the back door.
âBe right back,â I called over my shoulder to the others.
As soon as we were out the door, I pushed Jami back against it and pressed myself flush to him, letting my hands rove up and down his arms and abs.
âYou really want to do this? Here?â Amusement colored his tone, and he wore a cocky grin that had me biting my bottom lip.
âTake me or leave me,â I said, pressing another kiss to his lips. In response, Jami wove one hand into my hair and his other splayed across my lower back.
